Senior Ariana Elegado (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day HS) averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists to help Cal Poly open up conference play with a pair of victories, earning her Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.

It was the first such honor of Elegado’s career.

The 5-6 guard scored 19 points and added five rebounds, eight assists, a steal and a blocked shot in Cal Poly’s 70-65 win over Hawai‘i in Thursday’s Big West opener.  She nearly had her third perfect game from the free throw line this season, going 7-for-8 – and following 9-for-9 and 12-for-12 performances earlier.

In the Mustangs’ 56-41 victory over Central Coast rival UC Santa Barbara, Elegado posted 11 points, four rebounds and six assists.  She finished the game with 389 career assists, putting her just one shy of tying former All-American Laura Buehning for No. 2 in school history.

Elegado is also now 55 points back of No. 4 all-time at Cal Poly, and three 3-pointers shy of a career total of 212, which would tie for the ninth-most in the 28-year history of the shot.

Others nominated: Samantha Logan (Cal State Fullerton); Ashlee Guay (CSUN); Raven Benton (Long Beach State); Brittany Crain (UC Riverside); Megan Huff (Hawai‘i)
