Scoring 30 or more points for the fourth time this season, UC Riverside junior Brittany Crain (Moreno Valley, Calif./John W. North HS) parlayed a 31-point effort against San Diego State into Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week recognition.
The 5-8 guard scored 11 of the team’s final 19 points over the final 7:19 as the Highlanders held off a late Aztecs rally for the 64-54 victory. Crain, the nation’s seventh-leading scorer at 24.1 points per game, was instrumental in increasing a one-point UCR advantage into the final 10-point margin of victory.
Crain played all 40 minutes for the sixth time this year and notched the seventh 30-point game of her career. She connected on 11-of-18 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. She also made 5-of-7 from the free throw line, while chipping in five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
The award represents Crain’s third of the year and fourth of her career.
Others nominated: Anna Kim (Long Beach State); Destiny King (Hawai‘i)
