UC Riverside junior Brittany Crain (Moreno Valley, Calif./John W. North HS) became the 16th member of the school’s 1,000 point club in earning Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.

Crain averaged 25.0 points in two Highlander victories to reach 1,000 career points second-fastest in school history.  Crain drained a three with 5:47 remaining in the first half against San Francisco to tally her 1,000th career point, doing so in 59 games.

Yet it wasn’t just the record breaking weekend that netted Crain the weekly award.  The 5-8 guard shredded San Jose State for 34 points – three off her career-high – and added 15 rebounds for a double-double in a 100-80 victory.  Crain made 13-of-27 floor shots while adding three assists, three steals and a block.

In the 66-53 triumph over the Dons, Crain finished with 16 points, four rebounds, an assist and a block as the Highlanders moved to 3-0, the first time in the program’s Division I history that has happened.  Crain went 5-of-5 from the foul line against San Francisco, and made all 11 of her attempts for the week.

Others nominated: Ariana Elegado (Cal Poly); Chante Miles (Cal State Fullerton); Ashlee Guay (CSUN); Raven Benton (Long Beach State); Shawna-Lei Kuehu (Hawai‘i)
