Cal State Fullerton held on to the top spot of the leaderboard after carding a 291 for a two-day total of 578 at the 2014 Big West Men's Golf Championship at the Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, Calif.  The defending champion owns a two-stroke lead over UC Davis (289-291-580), who claimed the 2011 and 2012 titles.

Propelled by the low-round score of the day, 6-under-par 282, UC Riverside launched from ninth to third with a two-day total of 586.  The Highlanders had four golfers shoot under-par on day two with David Gazzolo, who carded a birdie on hole five, and Pachara Sakulyong leading the way with scores of 2-under 70.

Long Beach State maintained the fourth slot with a two-round score of 587 (295-292) and was followed by UC Irvine, who was one of two schools to fire under-par for the day.  The Anteaters blasted a 1-under 287 for a two-day total of 588.  Hawai'i sits sixth at 591 while Cal State Northridge (595), Cal Poly (599) and UC Santa Barbara (602) round out the nine-team field.

UC Davis' Matt Hansen tied the low score of the day at 3-under 69 to stretch his lead to five strokes with a 136 point total.  Cal State Fullerton's Mark Anguiano, Hawai'i's Nainoa Calip and Cal State Northridge's Kyler Sauer are jammed in second after firing 141 and Ryan Knapp of UC Irvine, who tied the low-round score of the day with 69, and Kevin Lee from Long Beach State are one stroke back in fifth.

The final round of the 2014 Big West Men's Golf Championship gets underway Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30 a.m. with split tee times. Hawai'i, UC Irvine and Long Beach State tee off at 7:30 from hole one while UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge start on the 10th hole. The final group, comprised of Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis and UC Riverside, gets underway at 8:20 a.m. from the first tee.  Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.

The winning team advances to the NCAA Division I men’s regionals which are held at six sites - Auburn University Club (Auburn, Ala.), Lonnie Pool Golf Course (Raleigh, N.C.), The Club at Old Hawthorne (Columbia, Mo.), Briggs Ranch Golf Club (San Antonio, Texas), Eugene Country Clun (Eugene, Ore.), Rich Harvest Farms (Sugar Grove, Ill.).  The six-day NCAA Men’s Golf Championship is scheduled for May 23-28 at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.  Selections for the regionals is slated for Monday, May 5 at 7:00 a.m. (PDT) on the Golf Channel.
