Heneghan Wins In Home Finale
UC Davis senior Megan Heneghan (Tustin, Calif./Beckman HS), playing in her final collegiate home match, won a pair of tight battles in singles and doubles to claim Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Although the Aggies lost a tough 4-3 contest against San Jose State, Heneghan’s No. 1 singles match against Marie Klocker was the last to finish. And, appropriately enough, the top Aggie won her 14th dual singles match (and 18th overall) this season with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 triumph to cap a five-hour marathon against the Spartans.
In addition, Heneghan and doubles partner Melissa Kobayakawa clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 against the Spartan tandem of Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett. The Aggie duo extended their program Division I record doubles win streak to 15 and their overall record to 17-3. The 17 dual wins is a UC Davis Division I record.
