UC Davis Leads After First Day Of Big West Championship

Big West Women's Golf Championship Central
After completion of the first round of the 2014 Big West Women's Golf Championship, the four-time defending champion UC Davis owns a 10-stroke lead over second-place Long Beach State at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club.
UC Irvine is one stroke behind Long Beach State in third place with a score of 305 and is followed by Cal State Northridge (307) in fourth and Cal State Fullerton (308) in fifth. Host Cal Poly sits sixth with a total of 313 while UC Riverside (316) holds the seventh spot and Hawai'i (321) rounds out the eight-team field.
Led by the 2012 Big West Women's Golf Championship individual winner Bev Vatananugulkit's 1-under 72, the Aggies blasted a low score of 294. Betty Chen, Paige Lee and Blair Lewis found themselves knotted in fifth place with a 1-over 74, while Andrea Wong rounded out the five-man team with a score of 78.
While Vatananugulkit finds herself atop the leaderboard with a 1-under 72, there is a three-way tie for second place between Cal State Fullerton duo Tisha Alyn Abrea and Martina Edberg and Long Beach State's Chaewon Park, who shot even-par 73. Seven players are tied for fifth with a score of 74.
Round two of the 2014 Big West Women's Golf Championship tees off at 9:00 a.m. Monday, April 14 with UC Riverside and Hawai'i. Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly are slated to tee off at 9:40 a.m. and UC Davis, Long Beach State and UC Irvine begin play at 10:30 a.m.
