Weekly Tennis Release No. 10

A plethora of home matches are on the docket for Big West women's tennis, while only one men's tennis match is on the schedule as schools tackle finals week.

BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

Friendly Confines Of Home
With a majority of schools taking exams this week, the Big West tennis schedule is light.  However, the eight women’s contests on tap all take place at a Big West facility.  Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge are the busiest of the schools with three and two matches, respectively.  The 49ers host Wyoming, Dartmouth and No. 37 Harvard.  LBSU looks to build a new home winning streak after Pepperdine handed the 49ers a loss for the first time in 20 matches on Saturday.

Cal State Northridge hosts Dartmouth and Wellesley in continuing a seven-match homestand.  Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine entertains Wyoming for a single match, while UC Santa Barbara welcomes No. 53 Kansas State.

On Monday, conference play resumes when a pair of 2-1 squads jockey for Big West Tournament seeding, as UC Santa Barbara hosts Hawai‘i.  The Rainbow Wahine are riding a five-match winning streak while the Gauchos have lost five of their last six contests.

Men’s Tennis Mostly Dormant
Only one men’s tennis contest is on the ledger this week with a majority of schools taking exams.  Hawai‘i seeks to snap a seven-match losing streak when it hosts San Francisco on Wednesday.  The Rainbow Warriors have played a brutal schedule, including No. 39 Michigan, No. 42 Pepperdine and No. 21 Oklahoma State.  UH entertains Cal Poly on Monday in Big West action.  The Mustangs are 2-0 in Big West play, while it is the conference opener for the Rainbow Warriors.

UC Irvine Rolling Along – On Both Sides
The UC Irvine men’s and women’s tennis teams are on solid winning streaks, and are cleaning up on the competition at home.  The men have won seven straight overall, including five in a row last week to conclude a seven-match homestand.  The Anteaters are now idle for 10 days before resuming play in a Big West match on Mar. 26 against UC Santa Barbara.  Meanwhile, the women are riding a five-match winning streak, all at home, and are in the midst of nine in a row.  UCI hosts Wyoming on Saturday, before facing Santa Clara, New Mexico State and Hawai‘i next week at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

A Decade And More At Indian Wells
Indian Wells Tennis Garden is hosting the Big West Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship for the 11th consecutive year.  One of the premier facilities in the United States that also hosts the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells will host all six men’s and nine women’s teams from April 24-27.  The Long Beach State women won the tournament championship for the nine time in the last 10 years, while the UC Santa Barbara men became the first No. 5 seed to earn the title.
