2014 Big West/ESPN3 Baseball and Softball Schedule
IRVINE, CA – A total of 19 Big West baseball games and nine softball games will be carried on ESPN3, the conference announced Wednesday.
All games will originate from Southern California member institutions Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Irvine and UC Riverside. Through the Big West’s new mobile production facility, each game will be produced by the Conference utilizing full ESPN production standards, including graphics, replay and on-air crew. It is the first fully operational mobile production unit of its kind that expands upon what ESPN Emerging Technology has already done at the institutional level.
Every Big West team will make an appearance on the baseball schedule, starting with long-time rivals Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton facing off in the first series of the season as the Dirtbags visit the Titans in a non-conference showdown at Goodwin Field, Mar. 21-23. UC Santa Barbara, off to its best start in school history, will make its ESPN3 debut at UC Irvine Friday, May 2, while top-10 team Cal Poly plays at UC Riverside on Sunday, May 4.
Long Beach State will host the first softball games of the ESPN3 package, hosting UC Riverside in a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 5 and then again for a single game on Sunday, Apr. 6. The 49ers will also host 2013 Big West champions Hawai’i for a three-game series April 12-13, while making another appearance at rival Cal State Fullerton Thursday, Apr. 17. The Titans close the schedule with UC Davis visiting Anderson Family Field Saturday, May 3 for a pair of games.
“The Big West’s baseball and softball presence on ESPN3 expands upon what is already offered through ESPNU, giving fans opportunities all season long to watch their favorite team in action,” said Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell. “We anticipate our institutions will be able to use this endeavor as an additional avenue to promote and publicize their programs.”
Every game on ESPN’s platforms will also be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold members, on Apple TV and Roku to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
