Cal State Northridge junior Camille Mahlknecht (Agoura, Calif./Agoura HS) established a single-game school rebounding record and averaged a double-double in two wins to secure Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
The 6-2 center had averages of 15.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks to propel the Matadors to a 83-57 road win over Cal Poly and a 78-54 home triumph against UC Santa Barbara. The win over the Gauchos was CSUN’s first at home in the series since 1984.
Mahlknecht collected 21 points and a school-record 22 rebounds in the UCSB win. She added two steals and five blocks while hitting 10 of 20 shots from the field. The 10 makes was a career-best for Mahlknecht.
Two nights earlier, she posted 10 points, seven rebounds and a season-high tying four assists to help CSUN knock off Cal Poly. It was CSUN’s first win against the Mustangs on the road since 2005.
The performance continued a record-breaking tear of achievements for Mahlknecht, who blocked a school record 11 shots at Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 8. She has 22 blocks over her last three games, and ranks among the top 15 nationally in the category.
For the week, Mahlknecht shot 51.9% (14 of 27) from the field.
