Cal State Northridge junior Ashlee Guay (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) earned Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for her role in a victory over USC for the first time in the program’s Division I history.
The Matadors survived 10 ties and 13 lead changes to upend the Trojans, 65-64, and Guay was pivotal in the victory. She scored a team-high 16 points, tied a season high with six assists, and five rebounds as the Matadors dispatched a Pac-12 opponent for the second straight season. CSUN defeated UCLA last season.
In 37 minutes of play, Guay made 5-of-10 floor shots, including three treys. She also sank 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
Northridge went from 1996-2012 without a win versus the Pac-12 before defeating USC and UCLA in consecutive seasons.
Others nominated: Camille Buckley (UC Irvine); Kamilah Jackson (Hawai‘i)
