UC Santa Barbara freshman Ali Spindt (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton HS) captured Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades after helping the Gauchos to a conference road sweep, including a five-set win over first place Cal State Northridge.
Spindt, a 6-0 outside hitter, averaged 4.00 kills, 3.38 digs and 0.25 service aces per set while posting a .225 (32-12-89) hitting percentage.
The Gauchos started out the week with a sweep of UC Davis, with Spindt recording 14 kills and 17 digs.
In a showdown between the two top teams in the Big West, Spindt was key in the five-set triumph over the Matadors. She picked up her 11th double-double of the season, her third consecutive, delivering a season-high tying 18 kills to go along with 10 digs. She had an impressive third set in which she swung for seven kills.
The pivotal victory over No. 21 CSUN cemented a season sweep of the Gauchos and put them in prime position to win the Big West.
