• Cal Poly swept both the men’s and women’s titles at the Big West Conference Cross Country Championships held at Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course. It was the second year in a row that the Mustangs won the team championships in both races. For the Cal Poly men, it was the 13th Big West crown overall (including the third in consecutive fashion), while the women claimed their fourth title in program history (including the second in as many years).

Cal Poly sophomore Laura Hollander set a 6K course record while winning the women’s race in 20 minutes and 43.9 seconds, repeating as the individual champion. The men’s 8K race to start the day also featured a back-to-back individual champion, as Mustang senior Chris Frias traversed the familiar surroundings in 25:19.5 to set the pace.

• UC Irvine head coach Vince O’Boyle, the second-longest tenured head coach in UC Irvine Athletics history, has announced his retirement, effective Dec. 31. O’Boyle is in his 32nd season as head coach of the Anteater men’s and women’s cross country programs, and 30th as director of the UCI men’s and women’s track & field programs after serving two seasons as an assistant track coach. During his UCI career, O’Boyle has been named Big West Conference Coach of the Year 20 times in cross country and track & field.
