Big West Honors 278 Student-Athletes On Winter, Spring All-Academic Teams

A total of 278 student-athletes from 10 member institutions were selected to the Academic All-Big West Conference Teams for the winter sports of men's and women's basketball, and the spring sports of baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, men's and women's golf, and women's water polo. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Cal Poly led all Big West institutions with 39 all-academic selections. Thirteen Mustangs earned honors in women's track while 10 were honored in men's track. Long Beach State and Hawaii collected 35 all-academic citations to tie for second while Cal State Northridge and UC Irvine finished fourth and fifth with 30 and 29 recognized student-athletes, respectively.
UC Davis had 27 representatives to rank sixth among Big West schools. Cal State Fullerton (23), UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara (21), and Pacific (18) also had large contingents recognized.
Women's track and field led all sports with 64 honorees while men's track and field was second with 37. Women's tennis produced 34 all-academic honorees, followed by women's water polo with 29, baseball (28), softball (22), women's basketball (20), women's golf (14), men's golf (11), men's tennis (10) and men's basketball (9).
