• Third-ranked Cal State Fullerton won a tightly-contested series over Long Beach State to maintain the top spot in the Big West standings with a 15-3 record.  Sitting second are the Cal State Northridge Matadors,  who swept UC Davis to improve to 14-4, while No. 22 Cal Poly and No. 23 UC Irvine are knotted in third with an 11-7 mark.  The Mustangs and Anteaters tie will be broken this weekend as the pair are slated to battle at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark Friday-Sunday.  First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Cal State Northridge, winning nine out of the last 10 contests, has put together a seven-game win streak for the first time since 2002.  The Matadors visit No. 8 UCLA Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. before hosting UC Santa Barbara in a three-game weekend series.  The Gauchos have claimed their last three conference series by scores of 2-1, downing Long Beach State, UC Riverside and nationally-ranked UC Irvine.

• The Pacific Tigers snapped an eight-game losing streak Sunday with a 6-5 victory over Hawai’i.  Their last win dated back to April 20 when they upset then-ranked No. 20 UC Irvine, 14-13 slugfest.

• Cal State Fullerton’s Michael Lorenzen currently owns the nation’s third-best saves mark with 15, one shy of last year’s total of 16, tying him for seventh in the Big West annals. His career total of 31 places him sixth all-time in the conference.

 • Cal State Fullerton’s Justin Garza and Cal Poly’s Joey Wagman both have notched the third-highest win total in the country with 10.  UC Irvine’s Andrew Morales is tied for ninth in the country with nine victories.

•  Later this month, No. 3 Cal State Fullerton appears on the small screen again when the Titans host nationally-ranked UC Irvine on May 17-18.  ESPNU is slated to broadcast Friday’s showdown at 8:00 p.m. and Fox Sports West has selected Saturday’s contest which will air at 6:00 p.m.
