Big West At A Glance

• In last week’s battle of the ranked teams, No. 4 Cal State Fullerton claimed the series over No. 16 Cal Poly, 2-1.  The Mustangs won the series-opener, 2-1, but the Titans rebounded and downed the Mustangs 10-5 and 6-5 in the final two contests.  The series drew 6,483 fans, the second-largest total in the 13-year history of Baggett Stadium.

• Third-ranked Cal State Fullerton remains atop the leaderboard with a 10-2 mark and is followed by Cal State Northridge at 8-4.  There is a three-way tie for third as No. 18 Cal Poly, No. 21 UC Irvine and Long Beach State own a 7-5 league record.

• UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara are knotted in sixth place with a 5-5 record, but the tie will be broken this weekend as the Highlanders host the Gauchos in a three-game weekend series. Games times are slated for 6:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 1 :00 p.m.

• With a 10-5 win over Hawai’i in the final game of the weekend series, Cal State Northridge completed its first sweep on the road against a Big West Conference opponent since accomplishing the feat at Pacific in 2004.

• UC Irvine’s Andrew Morales, this week’s Big West Pitcher of the Week recipient, ranks second in the country in victories with nine.  He is just one win shy of the nation’s top mark held by Vanderbilt’s Tyler Beede.

• The Titans are becoming quite the road warriors this season as they have compiled an impressive 19-2 record when playing away from Goodwin Field.  Seven of those victories were against Top-25 opponents.  Cal State Fullerton continues its seven-game roadtrip this weekend when it travels to Hawai’i, who holds a 6-17 home record.

• Big West vs. the West -  The Big West Conference owns an 86-83 record against fellow west coast conferences (Mountain West, Pac-12, West Coast and Western Athletic Conference).

• Next month fans will be able to watch Big West baseball on the small screen as ESPNU is set to broadcast the Long Beach State-Cal State Fullerton matchup on May 4 and the UC Irvine-Cal State Fullerton showdown on May 17.  Both contests take place at Goodwin Field, home of the Titans, at 8:00 p.m.  Fox Sports West has selected the May 18 contest between the Anteaters and Titans which will air at 6:00 p.m.

• Big West.TV brings together live and on-demand video from each of the Big West’s member institutions.  Now in its eighth year, BigWest.TV covers Big West sports, press conferences, interviews and features, including every home and conference contest in women’s volleyball as well as men’s and women’s basketball.  Also covered are select contests in men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, softball and Big West Championships.
