Big West At A Glance

• No. 4 Cal State Fullerton is the only remaining undefeated team in conference play as the Titans boast a 6-0 mark.  This week the Titans host UC Santa Barbara, who is coming off a series win (2-1) over then-ranked No. 17 Cal Poly.

• The University of Hawai’i is looking to break its four-game skid this week.  To do so, the Rainbow Warriors are going to have to knock-off some Top-25 competition as they visit No. 13 UCLA on Tuesday and No. 20 Cal Poly in a weekend series.  Hawai’i is 0-5 on the road this year.

• Titan Michael Lorenzen picked up three more saves last week to increase his season total to a league-high 11.  He currently owns 27 career saves, tying him for sixth in the Big West annals.

• Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine rank ninth and 11th in the nation in earned run average.  The Titans, led by a pair of freshman right-handers, Thomas Eshelman and Justin Garza, own a 2.49 ERA while the Anteaters hold a 2.53 mark.  Individually, Eshelman ranks 15th with a 1.09 ERA and hasn’t issued a walk in 58.0 innings pitched.  He is also tied for third in victories with ‘Eater Andrew Morales, as both hurlers have seven wins to their name.

• Last Week’s Crib Notes:
- Cal State Northridge pitcher Jerry Keel struck out a career-high nine batters in the Matadors’ 5-3 win over UC Riverside.

- UC Santa Barbara produced an 11-run inning to lift the Gauchos to a 13-2 victory over No. 17 Cal Poly.  UCSB’s 11-run outburst was the most runs scored by the Gauchos in a single inning since Mar. 29, 2009, when they scored 10 runs in the seventh inning at Cal State Northridge.

- In a battle of two top-10 teams, No. 4 Cal State Fullerton prevailed 9-6 over No. 10 UCLA at Jackie Robinson Stadium last Tuesday.  The Titans are now 6-1 against  nationally-ranked competition.

- UC Irvine’s Taylor Sparks notched three home runs in the Hawai’i series.

- Pacific collected its first series win over Long Beach State since 1998, going 2-1 against the Dirtbags.

- The Titans produced a 4-0 record on the road to improve to 16-1 when playing away from Goodwin Field.
