Conference Competition Continues Tight Race In League

All eight Big West teams have now competed in conference play, a total of 19 games. Of those 19 games, 17 have been decided by less than 5 goal differential and 9 have been determined by a single goal.
Conference play continues as we near towards the end of the season. Both UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State will travel to the islands to play Hawai’i in conference play. The three teams will also compete in a pair of spring break match-ups hosted by Hawai’i.
BIG WEST TOP IN COUNTRY
Continuing in league play all eight teams are above .500 and ranked in the top-20 of the Collegiate Water Polo Association. San Diego State took back the lead from UC Irvine that has had the week off, ranked at No. 6 with UC Irvine coming in seventh. Hawai’i following in the eighth position and Long Beach State tied at 9. Cal State Northridge slotted at No. 13, with UC Davis knotted at 15, UC Santa Barbara at 17 and Pacific closes moving up to No. 18 respectively.
KLATT CLOSES IN ON RECORD
Irvine head coach Dan Klatt is just 1 overall wins short of his 100th win in the Big West. Klatt has been with the Big West since 2009 leading all current coaches in overall (99) and conference (18) wins. The Anteaters will compete in two road conference matches this week: UC Davis on Friday, March 29 at noon and Saturday, March 30 at noon.
UC IRVINE HOSTS BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
The Anteaters will host this seasons post-season tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex, April 26-28th. The ‘Eaters have dominated all four seasons as tournament champs, this being the first time the ‘Eaters will host the conference tournament. Last season Irvine made a post-season run finishing fourth at the NCAA Tournament.
