Conference Matchups Continue as Aztecs Host Mini Invite

No. 7 San Diego State will host a two-day Aztec Mini Friday and Saturday, welcoming Brown, Long Beach State and Redlands to the Montezuma Mesa.

The 49er’s and Aztecs will meet for the second time this season.  The last contest went into overtime at the Triton Invitational where San Diego State outlast Long Beach 7-6.

BIG WEST TOP IN COUNTRY
Continuing in league play all eight teams are above .500 and ranked in the top-20 of the Collegiate Water Polo Association.  San Diego State took back the lead from UC Irvine that had the week off, ranked at No. 6 with UC Irvine coming in seventh. Hawai’i following in the eighth position and Long Beach State in at 9. Cal State Northridge slotted at No. 13, with UC Santa Barbara knotted at 15, UC Davis at 17 and Pacific closes at tied for No. 19 respectively.

KLATT CLOSES IN ON RECORD
Irvine head coach Dan Klatt is just 1 overall wins short of his 100th win in the Big West.  Klatt has been with the Big West since 2009 leading all current coaches in overall (99) and conference (18) wins. The Anteaters will have two matches this week to get Coach Klatt just one win shy of his milestone, Occidental (3/8) and Pomona-Pitzer (3/8).

UC IRVINE HOSTS BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
The Anteaters will host this seasons post-season tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex, April 26-28th.  The ‘Eaters have dominated all four seasons as tournament champs, this being the first time the ‘Eaters will host the conference tournament.  Last season Irvine made a post-season run finishing fourth at the NCAA Tournament.
