Long Beach State was the solo team that did not compete in the UC Irvine Invitational last week but traveled to the Indiana Tournament. The 49er’s managed a clean sweep, finishing 3-0 over the two-day competition. Just two wins shy of the 50-win milestone, head coach Gavin Arroyo notched his 50th win in a comeback win over No. 11 Indiana.
Long Beach will look to continue its five-game win streak this week with a pair of games against Azusa Pacific (3/2) and Chapman University (3/3) at the Cal Lutheran Tournament.
UCI INVITATIONAL WRAPUP
The UC Irvine Invitational this past weekend flooded the pool with Big West competition. Six games consisted of Big West rivals with an average 3.5 difference in goals and two games won by a single goal. Cal State Northridge (13), San Diego State (6) and host, UC Irvine (7) all split on the weekend going 2-2, while UC Santa Barbara (12), Hawai’i (8) and Pacific (13) finished 1-3 over the two-day invitational.
KLATT CLOSES IN ON RECORD
Irvine head coach Dan Klatt is just 5 overall wins short of his 100th win in the Big West. Klatt has been with the Big West since 2009 leading all current coaches in overall (95) and conference (17) wins. The Anteaters will dual this week against No.6 San Diego State Aztecs and No. 17 UC San Diego Tritons.
UC IRVINE TO HOST BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
The Anteaters will host this season’s post-season tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex, April 26-28th. The ‘Eaters have dominated all four seasons as tournament champs.
