All but one team, Long Beach State, will compete in the UC Irvine Invitational this week in preparation for conference competition.  An opportunity to test the waters of this year’s Big West Water Polo Tournament host UC Irvine.

DAVIS SWEEPS HOME TOURNAMENT
Last week Davis hosted the Davis Challenge picking up it’s first two ranked opponent victories in a 4-0 weekend sweep going into this week’s competition.  It was a team effort for the Aggies as senior All-American’s Carmen Eggert and Jessica Dunn led the pack with a combined 16 goals over the weekend, while Jillian Wilding occupied the net for the first time this season.  A 2012 walk-on and third in line goalie, Wilding stepped up to the plate as Woods and Cameron were out due to injury collecting 35 saves and just 21 goals against in her 128 minutes of work.

Eggert garnered Big West player of the Week for her outstanding performance leading the team in goals (10), steals (7, tied), drawn exclusions (6) and field blocks (4). The Aggies travel to conference foe, UC Irvine for the Invitational this week, facing the Anteaters first thing Saturday to start tournament play.

CLIMBING IN NUMBERS
Two coaches are closing in on the overall win milestones with Long Beach State head coach Gavin Arroyo just two wins shy of 50. Close behind is UC Irvine head coach Dan Klatt just 7 overall wins from his 100th win.  Klatt has been with the Big West since 2009 leading all current coaches in overall (93) and conference (17) wins. The 49ers will compete in the Indiana Tournament this week in an effort to help Coach Gavin achieve his milestone with a three game line-up.

UC IRVINE TO HOST BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
The Anteaters will host this season’s post-season tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex, April 26-28th.  The ‘Eaters have dominated all four seasons as tournament champs, this being the first time the ‘Eaters will host the conference tournament.  Last season Irvine made a post-season run finishing fourth at the NCAA Tournament.
