Christian Standhardinger (Munich, Germany/Nebraska) repeated as Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week as the Hawai`i junior averaged a double-double in two important victories.
The 6-8 forward posted averages of 20.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game to help the Warriors trounce league-leading Long Beach State (94-73) and outlast UC Irvine (78-72) and move into sole possession of second place in the Big West.
Standhardinger's 20 points and 13 rebounds factored heavily in UH's victory against the 49ers, who saw their eight-game win streak halted. He scored 13 of those points in the decisive first-half as UH built a 33-point halftime lead. Standhardinger also collected his ninth double-double of the season and shot 8 of 11 from the field to go along with three assists and three steals.
In the win over the Anteaters, Standhardinger poured in 20 points once again but reserved his better play for the second half. He notched 14 points in the second stanza to guide the Warriors back from a seven-point halftime deficit. Standhardinger hit 8 of 13 floor shots and sank 4 of 6 from the foul line for the second straight game.
For the week, Standhardinger shot a sizzling 66.7 (16 of 24) percent from the floor and ranks sixth in the Big West in field goal percentage (.518).
