Five Big West teams hit the road to the Triton Invitational this week hosted by the University of San Diego, in San Diego, Calif. Long Beach State will compete for the first time this season with conference foes San Diego State, UC Irvine, Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara all also in the lineup at the Invite.

After another successful week in the pool, competition will continue to reign high with competitors such as Sonoma State, Santa Clara and Michigan. UC Davis will also be competing against the undefeated and ranked Stanford this weekend in a solo contest at home.  This is the second matchup in two weeks against the Cardinals, last being when the Aggies were defeated 11-2 at the Stanford Invitational last week.

TIGERS RELTON BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD
Pacific’s Michele Relton went into the weekend just two blocks shy of becoming Pacific’s all-time leader in saves with 679 blocks.  She achieved that recognition in a 8-7 victory over CSU East Bay with 10 total saves, just the start to the Tiger’s 3-0 weekend hosting the 2013 Pacific Invitational.

Relton finished the tournament with a high of 38 saves adding to her total career 717 saves.  This places her second in the Big West record book for career saves, only succeeded by Ruth Milne from UC Santa Barbara with 992 from 2010-2012.

EGGENS LEADS HAWAI’I ON THE MAINLAND
Senior Monika Eggens returns after training with the Canadian National Team, a two-time all-MPSF first team selection and league leading 2.56 goals per match for this week’s Big West Player of the Week recognition.  She led the Rainbow Wahine with 19 goals over the combined six matches with four hat tricks.  Hawai’i opened the season 4-2 on the road last week at the Stanford Invitational.  The Rainbow Wahine return to action when they travel to Southern California for a match at Claremont on Feb. 21, before participating in the UC Irvine Invitational, Feb. 23-24.

UC IRVINE TO HOST BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
The Anteaters will host this season’s post-season tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex, April 26-28th.  The ‘Eaters have dominated all four seasons as tournament champs, this being the first time the ‘Eaters will host the conference tournament.  Last season Irvine made a post-season run finishing fourth at the NCAA Tournament.
