Hawai’i senior Jessica Iwata and Pacific senior Nikki Armagost have been selected to the 50-player "Watch List" for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today.

Iwata (Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i), who was named to the preseason "Watch List" for the third time in her career, led the Rainbow Wahine in a number of offensive categories last season, including batting average (.400), slugging percentage (.740), hits (60) and (RBI).  She also finished second on the team in home runs (14), doubles (9) and runs scored (37).  The shortstop already owns the UH career record for RBI with 159 and the three-time All-WAC First Team selection claimed second-team Easton All-America honors for her efforts in 2012.

Armagost (Andover, Kan./Andover Central HS) is one of the nation's top two-way players who has had an illustrious career at Pacific.  The 2012 Big West Offensive Player of the Year, Armagost led the conference in batting average (.433), doubles (18) and total bases (104), while also ranking in the top five in runs scored (35 - 3rd), hits (71 - 2nd), RBI (38 - 2nd) and slugging percentage (.634 - 3rd).  Armagost's .433 average placed her seventh on the all-time Big West single-season list and ranked her 16th nationally in the NCAA.  In the circle, Armagost posted an 11-7 record with a 2.29 earned run average.  She was fourth in the Big West in ERA and opponent batting average (.235), and sixth in wins.

The most prestigious individual individual honor in NCAA Division I Softball, the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year "Watch List" will be whittled down to the Top 25 Finalists on April 10.  The Top 10 Finalists will be announced May 8 and the Top 3 Finalists will be named May 22.  On May 28, prior to the start of the 2013 NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed.
