BIG WEST, TOP COMPETITION
With a familiar reflection of last year’s final standings despite new additions to the Big West water polo squads, seven institutions received votes in this year’s preseason poll by the Collegiate Water Polo Association, six of them ranked in the top-20.

UC Irvine led the pack picking up where it left off last season at No. 6, San Diego State jumping to seventh, UC Davis ranked 12th, Hawai’i right behind at No. 13, UC Santa Barbara assuming 15 and closing the top-20 is Northridge tied for 16th. Long Beach State received 5 votes after finishing 2012 receiving just one.

FRESH BLOOD IN THE WATER
Two additions are being made this season with new member Hawai’i and former MPSF program San Diego State joining the women’s water polo competition. We also see a new face leading the Tigers in their final season of Big West competition, James Graham, also the men’s water polo coach for Pacific.

Both teams come into the conference ranked in the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll released today. Hawai’i positioned itself at No. 15 last season, moving up two spots at No. 13, and San Diego State came in just below the Anteaters in the No. 7 slot, one seed higher than the final polls last season.

New Pacific head coach James Graham takes over both water polo squads in his fifth season as head coach of the men’s team. He is the first coach in school history to coach both teams simultaneously.

UC IRVINE TO HOST BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
The Anteaters will host this seasons post-season tournament at the Anteater Aquatics Complex, April 26-28th. The ‘Eaters have dominated all four seasons as tournament champs, this being the first time the ‘Eaters will host the conference tournament. Last season Irvine made a post-season run finishing fourth at the NCAA Tournament.
