Junior Molly Schlemer (Santa Maria, Calif./Righetti HS) starred in both a reserve and starting role to spark Cal Poly to two conference victories and earn Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
The 6-5 center averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while playing just over 20 minutes per game in victories over UC Davis and Pacific. Schlemer shot an impressive 75.0 (18 of 24) percent from the field to help the Mustangs move into a second place tie in the Big West standings.
In just 15 minutes of action in the 73-71 triumph over the Aggies, Schlemer provided 12 points and six rebounds on 5 of 7 shooting off the bench.
Schlemer then entered the starting lineup and turned in the best performance of her collegiate career in a triple-overtime, 96-95 nailbiter against Pacific. She scored a career-high 28 points, making 13 of 17 shots, and added nine boards in 28 minutes of play. Schlemer made her 13th field goal in the first overtime to give the Mustangs a one-point lead before fouling out with 1:04 to play.
The 28-point effort eclipsed the previous career-high of 21 points she set against No. 24 Oklahoma State earlier this season.
Others nominated: Lauren Bushong (Cal State Fullerton); Ashlee Guay (Cal State Northridge); Cortney French (UC Davis); Melissa Zornig (UC Santa Barbara); Kamilah Martin (Hawaii)
