Cal State Fullerton senior Sammy Yeager (Modesto, Calif./TCU) scored a career-high 30 points in a conference-opening victory against UC Santa Barbara, earning him Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Hitting a career-high eight three-pointers and making 11 of 16 shots overall, Yeager spurred the Titans to an 86-79 win in front of a nationally televised ESPNU audience. In 37 minutes of action, the 6-4 forward added four rebounds, two assists and one steal as the Titans improved to 6-0 when scoring 80 points or more.
Yeager's eight makes from three-point range came close to breaking the school single-game record of 11 set by Bobby Brown in 2006. His 30 points was the second-highest by a Titan player this season.
Yeager has scored in double figures nine times in 12 games, and in four of the last five.
Others nominated: Kyle Odister (Cal Poly); Stephan Hicks (Cal State Northridge); James Ennis (Long Beach State); Adam Folker (UC Irvine); Vander Joaquim (Hawaii)
