Sophomore Ashlee Guay notched a career-high 28 points to lead Cal State Northridge to a win over No. 12 UCLA, earning her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Guay led all players in the scoring column as the Matadors defeated a ranked opponent for the first time in school history. She hit 9 of 14 floor shots and sank 10 of 12 from the free throw line in last Thursday's 77-72 victory at the New Pauley Pavilion.
The 5-7 guard was clutch in the closing moments of the game as she drained six straight free throws with less than two minutes to play to keep CSUN in the lead. Guay added three rebounds, two assists and two steals to her totals.
The win also was CSUN's first against UCLA in 10 chances, and the program's first against a member of the Pac-12 Conference since 1996.
Guay is now averaging a team-high 14.8 points and 4.5 assists this season.
Others nominated: Jonae Ervin (Cal Poly); Lauren Bushong (Cal State Fullerton); Ella Clark (Long Beach State); Sydnee Fipps (UC Davis); Tre'Shonti Nottingham (UC Riverside)
