Sweets Underwood earned her second consecutive Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor as the UC Santa Barbara senior delivered a double-double in an impressive road victory against Pac-12 opponent Washington.
The 6-0 forward notched 15 points and a season-high 13 rebounds – her second straight and fourth double-double of the season – as the Gauchos won 54-46 on Saturday. It represented UCSB's first win over a Pac-12 team since 2009. In addition, the Gauchos halted Washington's four-game winning streak and handed the Huskies their first home loss of the season, and just their second overall loss this year.
Underwood got the Gauchos off to a hot start as she collected 12 of her 15 points in the first stanza, helping them open up a 17 point lead at one point. Underwood made 6 of 11 floor shots and converted 3 of 4 from the free throw line to go along with three assists and one steal in her 34 minutes of action.
UCSB's win against Washington marks the sixth total for the Big West against the Pac-12 this year. In addition, Cal Poly (Oregon State), Long Beach State (Arizona and Washington), UC Riverside (Washington State) and Hawaii (Oregon) have earned wins versus the Pac-12.
UCSB won its second straight road victory and improved to 4-5 overall. Underwood claimed Player of the Week honors last week after a 22-point, 11-rebound performance in a victory against Loyola Marymount.
Others nominated: Alyson Doherty (UC Davis)
