Terrific Season Debut Leads Aggie French To Women's Basketball Weekly Honor

UC Davis senior Cortney French (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) nabbed Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors as she led the Aggies to a pair of victories.
French, who missed the first two games of the season, made her Aggie season debut a strong one in the opening game of the Houston Baptist Husky Classic.  In a 66-63 overtime win against Navy, French notched a career-high 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting.  She drained five three-pointers, including one with six seconds remaining in regulation that tied the game and forced overtime.

The 5-11 guard turned in another solid performance in a 77-64 triumph against host Houston Baptist.  She canned three treys in the first half en route to a 16-point effort.  French added a team-high six rebounds and a career-high four steals to help subdue the Huskies.

For her efforts, French was named the Husky Classic Tournament MVP.  For the week, she averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals while connecting at a 54.2 (13 of 24) percent clip from the field.  French also sizzled from the perimeter, knocking down eight of her 17 three-point attempts.

Others nominated: Brittany Woodard (Cal Poly); Ashlee Guay (Cal State Northridge); Alex Sanchez (Long Beach State); Jennifer Tsurumoto (UC Irvine); Tre'Shonti Nottingham (UC Riverside); Kamilah Martin (Hawaii); Kendall Kenyon (Pacific)
