UC Irvine senior Daman Starring scored a career-high 25 points in a season-opening victory over Nevada to claim the first Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the 2012-13 season.
The 6-3 guard tallied 14 of his points in the second half as the Anteaters broke away from a six-point halftime lead.
Starring was a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line and hit 7 of 15 shots overall from the field as UCI snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Wolf Pack. Starring added seven rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal to help UCI upend a Nevada team that won 28 games last season and capture the WAC title before moving to the Mountain West Conference this year.
