Women's Soccer Readies For Big West Showdown

Cal State Fullerton secured the Big West women’s soccer title for the first time since 2007 in a 4-1 victory over Pacific to close out the 2012 regular season. The Titans finished 10-8 overall, 7-2 in the Big West for their fifth conference title in school history.

Cal State Northridge came up with the game-winning goal from freshman midfielder Taylor Hobson in the 104th minute to top Long Beach State, 1-0. The Matadors advanced to the tournament for the fourth season in a row as the No. 2 seed, while the two-time defending tournament champion 49ers missed the field.

Cal Poly placed third after holding the number one spot in the conference standings until the final week, finishing with a 1-0 win over UC Santa Barbara with a goal by freshman Elise Krieghoff, who scored 11 goals this season.

UC Irvine secured the final tournament spot in two draws this past week against Cal State Northridge and Hawai’i.  With 18 points and a 5-2-2 Big West record, the Anteaters advanced to the postseason tournament as the fourth seed.

No. 1 CSF vs. No. 4 UCI
Cal State Fullerton last made it to the post season in 2007 where they captured their third straight title from 2005-2007.  Fullerton is 5-3-1 all-time in the Big West Tournament, going 3-3 in the semifinals and an unbeaten 2-0-1 in the finals.  Against first opponent Irvine the Titans hold a 1-0 advantage against the Anteaters in Tournament play.

Heading to the postseason for the fourth consecutive year, UC Irvine holds all-time Big West tournament record of 4-3-0 in the semifinals and 1-3-0 in the championship.  The last two season the Anteaters have lost in the championship match to Long Beach State.

The Matadors clinched the tournament berth with a 2OT win against two-year championship winner LBSU.  For the fourth season in a row Northridge heads to the postseason looking to win their first semifinals match in program history. 

Cal Poly heads into the tournament with a previous postseason record of 7-0-1 in the semifinals and 3-2-1 in the finals. With the two teams meeting in the conference tournament for the first time.
