Cal State Fullerton secured the Big West women's soccer title for the first time since 2007 in a 4-1 victory over Pacific to close out the 2012 regular season. The Titans finished 10-8 overall, 7-2 in the Big West for their fifth conference title in school history.
Cal Poly, holding the number one spot in the conference standings until the final week, finished with a 1-0 win over UC Santa Barbara with a goal by freshman Elise Krieghoff, who scored 11 goals this season.
The Mustangs received a tourney berth for the first time since 2009, earning the No. 3 spot.
In down-to-the-wire battles, two matches went into double overtime on the final day of regular season competition to decide the fate for the remaining tournament berths.
Cal State Northridge came up with the game-winning goal from freshman midfielder Taylor Hobson in the 104th minute to top Long Beach State, 1-0. The Matadors advanced to the tournament for the fourth season in a row as the No. 2 seed, while the two-time defending tournament champion 49ers missed the field.
The final game with tournament ramifications was Hawaii at UC Irvine. Both teams battled through double overtime and emerged with a scoreless draw. With 18 points and a 5-2-2 Big West record, the Anteaters advanced to the postseason tournament as the fourth seed.
The Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament will kick off Thursday, Nov. 1 at Anteater Stadium with No. 2 Cal State Northridge (9-4-6, 6-1-2) taking on No. 3 Cal Poly (9-6-3, 6-1-2) at 5:00 p.m. The top-seeded Titans (10-8-0, 7-2- ) will take on fourth-seeded Anteaters (9-8-3, 5-1-3) at 7:30 p.m.
Both semifinal matches of the Big West Women's Soccer Tournament will stream live over the Internet via UStream at Tournament Central, while the Big West Tournament final will air live on FOX Sports Prime Ticket as part of the new Big West-FOX Sports Partnership.
