All Ten Teams In Action In Preparation For Upcoming Championship

• Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside are hosting cross country meets this week as they prepare for the upcoming Big West Conference Cross Country Championship two weeks out.
Competing in their first race in October, the Highlanders are hosting the Highlander Invitational Saturday at the UCR Ag/Ops Course, home to the 2012 Big West Conference Cross Country Championship. The invitational gets underway with the men’s 6K at 8:00 a.m. and is followed by the women’s 4,000 meters at 8:30 a.m. Conference foe UC Irvine is also scheduled to participate.
On Saturday, Oct. 13 the Matadors are hosting the CSUN Cross Country Invitational on the campus of Cal State Northridge. Up first is the women’s 5K at 8:00 a.m. and is followed by the men’s 8K at 8:30 a.m.
The Mustangs are hosting their event at the Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course on the campus of Cuesta College on Saturday, Oct. 13. The women’s 5K kicks off the meet at 9:00 a.m. and is followed by the men’s 8,000-meter run at 9:30 a.m. Cal Poly is also sending a select few to the midwest to compete in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday, Oct. 12. The races are being held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, located near the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. Heralded as one of the largest collegiate events, this year’s meet welcomes 46 men’s teams and 49 women’s teams.
• A handful of Big West schools - Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Davis, Pacific and Hawai’i - are headed to the Bay Area for some fine-tuning as they compete in the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The women’s 5K is slated for 9:45 a.m. while the men’s 8K gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
• For the fifth consecutive year, the Big West Cross Country Championship takes place at the UC Riverside Ag/Ops Course on the campus of UC Riverside. This year’s event is slated for Saturday, Oct. 27 with the women’s 6,000 meters taking place at 8:45 a.m. and the men’s 8K at 9:30 a.m. Tickets prices are $5 for the general public and $2 for students from Big West Conference member institutions.
