DIRECTV Signs on as Title Sponsor of 2012 Anaheim Classic

DIRECTV and ESPN announced an agreement establishing the broadcast satellite service provider as the title sponsor of the 2012 DIRECTV Classic, formerly the Anaheim Classic. The early-season basketball tournament is played at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center, adjacent to Disneyland and is held Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 22, 23 & 25. The eight confirmed teams playing in this year’s event include Cal, Drake, Drexel, Georgia Tech, Pacific, Rice, Saint Mary’s and Xavier.
“We look forward to bringing on DIRECTV as the title sponsor of the Anaheim Classic,” said Pete Derzis, senior vice president and GM, ESPN Regional Television. “The event continues to draw outstanding teams to Anaheim and we are excited about the upcoming 2012 tournament.”
ESPNU will carry six of the tournament games, while ESPN2 will air five, including the Championship Game on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 9 p.m. ET. ESPN3 will have the one remaining game and the entire tournament will be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com and through smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
DIRECTV Classic highlights:
• ESPNU will air first-round action between Pacific vs. Xavier at 2 p.m. and Rice vs. Georgia Tech at 9 p.m.
• ESPN2 will carry the additional first-round games featuring Drexel vs. Saint Mary’s at 4:30 p.m. and Drake vs. Cal at 11:30 p.m.
• Six of the eight teams advanced to 2012 postseason play, including Cal, Saint Mary’s and Xavier in the NCAA Championship
