Henry Sets Up and Scores Game-Winner In 2-0 Week For Aggies

Junior Alex Henry (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) provided a foot in both UC Davis game-winning goals to capture Big West Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The midfielder/defender had the game-winning assist in Friday's 1-0 triumph over UC Riverside.  He lined up an indirect free kick on the right wing and served a ball into the penalty area.  The pass found Kevin Schulte, who put it away in the 60th minute for the lone goal of the game.

In Sunday's 2-1 win against Cal State Fullerton, Henry delivered the game-winning goal in the 79th minute.  Playing at left defender, Henry collected a clearance from the Titan defense and fired a rocket low and hard across the goal from 35 yards away.  The ball settled into the lower right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

UC Davis extended its winning streak to three games and improved its record to 3-1 against Big West South Division opponents.

Others nominated: Mackenzie Pridham (Cal Poly); Beto Velasquez (Cal State Northridge); Max Alvarez (Sacramento State); Nic Ryan (UC Santa Barbara)

Abalos Collects Two Shutouts On Tough Central Coast Roadtrip

Senior Michael Abalos (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) registered his fourth and fifth shutouts of the season to lead Cal State Northridge to two huge conference road victories and garner himself Big West Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The netminder made seven saves as the Matadors fought off Cal Poly and No. 4 UC Santa Barbara on the road in a pair of intense 1-0 battles.

Abalos notched three saves while facing nine shots against the Mustangs.  Against the Gauchos, he turned away a pair of headers in the second half, including one in the 86th minute that preserved his clean sheet.  Abalos made a total of four saves versus UCSB.

He now has 19 career shutouts, moving him into sole possession of ninth place in the Big West all-time.

The Matadors have won seven of their last eight games with the last five victories coming by shutout.
