Moscatello, Meyers Claim Women's Soccer Weekly Awards
Pacific sophomore Sasha Moscatello and Long Beach State sophomore Marrina Meyers stood out in non-conference triumphs to collect Big West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Moscatello Makes Triumphant Return To Pitch
Sophomore Sasha Moscatello (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS) quickly shook off the rust in a performance that netted her Big West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.
After missing all but nine minutes of her two previous years due to ACL surgeries, Moscatello played extended minutes in Tiger victories against Saint Mary's and Arizona with phenomenal results.
Moscatello tallied a goal and an assist as the Tigers knocked off the Gaels (3-2 in double overtime) and the Wildcats (2-1) at home. The midfielder accounted for the game-winning goal with one minute left in the second overtime against Saint Mary's, setting up teammate Maricela Padilla who cashed in the score.
In the Arizona contest, Moscatello notched a goal from 25 yards out to give Pacific a 1-0 lead.
Others nominated: Elizabeth Lyons (Long Beach State); Andrea Luttio (UC Riverside)
Meyers Records Third Shutout In Long Beach State Win
Sophomore Marrina Meyers (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista HS) notched her third shutout of the season as Long Beach State defeated San Diego, 1-0, in the final non-conference game prior to Big West play.
Meyers stopped six Torero shots and finished just two shy of her career high as the 49ers improved to 7-3-0 on the year. It was a rematch of last year's battle in the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, which LBSU also won by a 1-0 score.
The netminder made her toughest save at the 62:02 mark on a diving lunge to the left to keep the match scoreless at the time.
Meyers helped LBSU win its 12th consecutive game at home and lowered her goals against average to 1.16.
Others nominated: Brittni Beeman (Pacific)
