UC Davis senior Allison Whitson parlayed her selection as the Most Valuable Player at the Fresno State Classic into Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week recognition.
The 6-1 outside hitter led the Aggies to a 2-1 record with victories over Utah Valley and Sacramento State sandwiched around a loss to the tournament host Bulldogs. She topped UC Davis in kills, attacks and hitting percentage.
Whitson averaged 4.58 kills, 3.42 digs and 0.50 blocks per set while hitting .265 (55-19-136) for the three contests. She recorded a career-best 24 kills and added 17 digs in a five-set win over Utah Valley.
Against Fresno State, she had her highest hitting average in the lone loss of the weekend. She hit .429 with 17 kills and only two errors in 36 attempts against the Bulldogs. The .429 effort was her highest single-match average since a .522 showing against Pacific in the 2011 Big West opener.
Whitson was instrumental in getting the Aggies back on track after a first-set loss to the Hornets in the tournament finale. She had five kills in seven errorless swings and chipped in five digs in the second set, sparking her team to victory in the next three sets.
