Holloway Captures Silver Medal WIth USA Sitting Volleyball Team

9/7/2012

Former Cal State Northridge women's basketball standout Katie Holloway, a member of the USA Women's Sitting Volleyball Team, helped her side claim the silver medal at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

The USA lost in four sets to China, 25-22, 15-25, 30-32, 15-25, in the gold medal match.  Holloway had an impressive match with a team-high 28 kills and eight digs to lead the Americans.

Holloway is the eighth Big West representative to claim a medal this summer.  She joins Long Beach State's Misty May-Treanor, UC Santa Barbara's Jason Lezak and UC Irvine women's water polo coach Dan Klatt as Big West representatives who have achieved medals at these Olympics.  May-Treanor won her third straight gold medal in women's beach volleyball and Lezak captured a silver medal as a member of the USA men's 4x100 free relay team.  Klatt coached the USA women’s water polo team to a gold medal victory.  In addition, four members of the women's indoor volleyball team – former Long Beach State athletes Danielle Scott-Arruda and Tayyiba Haneef-Park, along with UC Irvine coaches Paula Weishoff and Jamie Morrison – also claimed the silver medal.
