LBSU Awarded NSCAA Recognition: Long Beach State leads the Big West as the sole representative in preseason polls by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) ranked overall No. 18 as a team and senior Nadia Link making the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Long Beach State took home the Big West Tournament title in 2011 and continued in postseason play making it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.  Link led the 49ers to the winningest season in program history at 18-6-1 and collected multiple postseason honors.

It was the furthest a Big West squad had advanced in the NCAA Tournament and the 49ers had compiled a school record eight-game winning streak prior to the loss to the Blue Devils, 2-0.

Long Beach Tops 2012 Preseason Coaches Poll: Long Beach State came out on top in the 2012 Big West Preseason Coaches Poll with nine of the ten first place votes. The 49ers collected 99 points respectively, with runner-up UC Irvine with a single first-place vote this season, tallying 86 points.  This is the first time in three years that LBSU has taken precedence over the Anteaters in the preseason poll.

Fullerton nabbing third with 71 points as Cal State Northridge was close behind in fourth place with 69 points.  UC Santa Barbara took fifth with 53, followed by Cal Poly holding sole possession of sixth (48). UC Davis and Pacific knotted at 44 and UC Riverside and Hawai’i tied at 18 apiece to close out the poll.

Bardsley’s Olympic Quest: Former Titan, Karen Bardsley was selected to compete at the 2012 London Olympics to represent Great Britain with 17 other players making it to one of the quarterfinal matches against Canada before losing 2-0.

Bardsley finished with four saves for the match, and 17 for the tournament, as the host side advanced to the quarterfinals in their first-ever Olympic tournament appearance.

Bardsley, a native of Chino Hills, Calif., who competed for the Titans from 2002-06, becomes the second women's soccer Olympian from Cal State Fullerton, joining former teammate Marlene Sandoval (2002-05), who competed for Mexico in the 2004 games in Athens.

Big West Watch List:
Long Beach State’s head coach Mauricio Ingrassia will look to make history this season, just four wins shy of the100 career wins milestone.  Ingrassia has been with the 49ers for eight seasons collecting a 94-54-17 overall record and 34-22-7 conference record.  Since his first year, LBSU has won either a Big West regular season or tournament title five times, made three NCAA Tournament appearances and set the school record for wins three times.

Senior on the LBSU squad, Nadia Link will push to break into the top-10 all-time Big West scoring record, just 11 goals shy with 24 total.  Last season Link scored 16 goals, preceded by her eight goals in her sophomore season.

Link currently holds the number one spot on Big West active career leaders with her 24 goals and 59 points, and comes in second in assists with 12.
