UC Irvine standouts Jessy Cardey and Danielle Warde collected second team accolades on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches NCAA Division I All-American teams, which honored a total of 10 Big West student-athletes Monday.
Cardey and Warde were the first Big West representatives to reach second team status on the ACWPC All-American teams. It was Cardey's third honor after she received honorable mention in 2010 and 2011. Warde also claimed honorable mention recognition in 2011.
Senior Katie Croghan gave UCI the trifecta as she was one of eight Big West student-athletes to capture honorable mention All-American accolades.
UC Davis teammates Jessica Dunn and Carmen Eggert and the Cal State Northridge duo of Jenny Jamison and Marisa Young gave the Big West three schools with multiple honorees. Long Beach State sophomore Coriann Snyder, UC Santa Barbara junior Ruth Milne and Pacific sophomore Elise Martin rounded out the group of honorable mentions.
Cardey had one of the finest campaigns in Big West history as her 74 goals ranked fifth all-time in a single season. The 2012 Big West Tournament Most Valuable Player helped the Anteaters to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships and was selected to the All-Tournament First Team.
CSUN and UCI are tied for the most overall All-Americans (6) and total citations (10) among the six schools sponsoring women's water polo in the Big West. Snyder became LBSU's first All-American honoree since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 2009.
