6/6/2012
Six schools were represented in the announcement of the Big West Spring Sportsmanship Team Awards as winners were selected for baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track, and women’s water polo.
Long Beach State received the sportsmanship award in both men’s and women’s golf, while UC Irvine won dual honors in men’s and women’s track and field. Other mulitple sport winners were UC Riverside (women’s tennis and baseball) and Pacific (women’s water polo and softball). Pacific shared the softball award with Cal Poly. UC Davis captured the honor in men’s tennis to round out the list of honorees.
The Sportsmanship Award is voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the Big West’s 16 championship sports. Each participating student-athlete selects the school that demonstrates excellent conduct in competition and is most deserving. Winning teams are honored with commemorative t-shirts.
