The Cal Poly men and Long Beach State women will face nationally ranked opponents in the first round of their respective NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.

The Mustangs take on No. 19 Texas Tech at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12 at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif.  Host and No. 14-seeded California meets UTSA in the other first round match at noon.  Both winners will square off in second round action on Sunday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m.

Cal Poly makes its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.  The Mustangs qualified as the Big West Tournament champion, knocking off UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara on successive days at Indian Wells Tennis Garden last week.  Cal Poly boasts a 15-7 record overall and owns a national ranking of No. 63 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.

The Mustangs completed Big West play 5-0 to become the third team in history to finish undefeated, joining the 2011 UC Irvine and 2007 Cal Poly squads.  Junior Andre Dome, the 2012 Big West Player of the Year, is ranked No. 40 nationally in singles and No. 64 in doubles with partner Matt Fawcett.

Cal Poly played a challenging schedule that included 12 nationally ranked opponents.  Six of the Mustangs' seven losses came to ranked schools.  Texas Tech faced two common Big West opponents during the regular season, losing 4-3 to UC Santa Barbara and defeating UC Irvine 6-1.

In their inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance as at-large selection in 2011, the Mustangs fell to Washington in the first round.

Long Beach State appears in the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time and is headed for a familiar venue.  For the fourth time, the 49ers will play at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The 49ers battle No. 33 Arkansas in the first round on Friday, May 11 at 10:00 a.m.  The top-seeded Bruins host Eastern Kentucky in the other first round match at 1:00 p.m.  Both winners will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m.

LBSU won its ninth Big West Tournament title and eighth in the last nine years with a dominating performance at Indian Wells Tennis Garden last week.  The 49ers cruised past Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine to improve to 18-5 on the season.  They have won eight straight matches heading into the NCAA Tournament.

The 49ers are ranked No. 43 nationally by the ITA and boast the Big West Player of the Year in senior Anais Dallara, rated No. 101 in the nation in singles.  The 49er doubles tandem of Laura Bernard and Rachel Manasse is ranked No. 81.

For the fifth time since 2006, the 49ers finished Big West play undefeated.  They posted an 8-0 record, joining the 2010 (8-0), 2009 (8-0), 2008 (8-0) and 2006 (7-0) squads for Big West superiority.

LBSU is 1-7 all-time in the NCAA's with the win coming in the 2006 first round against New Mexico.  The 49ers have never faced Arkansas in the postseason.
