Pacific Takes First Day Lead At Championships

Pacific holds a comfortable eight shot lead after the first round of competition at the Big West Men’s Golf Championships at La Quinta Resort, Mountain Course, in La Quinta, Calif. 

The Tigers posted a first-round score of 282, with the closest competitors being UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton finishing the day 2-over par 290 to lock in second.  It is a tight race with UC Irvine close behind totaling 291 just 3-over par.  UC Santa Barbara closes in at fifth (292), with a draw for sixth between Long Beach State and UC Riverside.  Closing up final standings after day one is Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge locked at 301 a piece. 

Leading all individuals, Pacific’s Alex Edfort shot 4-under par for a total 68 taking sole possession of first.  Teammate Byron Meth, Cal State Northridge’s Chris Russo and Cal State Fullerton’s Mark Anguiano all tallied a 69, just 3-under par in a three-way tie for second place going into round two of the three-day event.
