No. 5 seed UC Davis, which came in 0-4 all-time at the Big West Men's Tennis Championship, recorded its first victory in Friday's quarterfinals after defeating Pacific 4-1 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Aggies advanced to Saturday's semifinals against top-seeded Cal Poly in an 11:00 a.m. match.  UCD improved to 6-15 with the win while Pacific dropped to 8-15 in its season finale.

The match unfortunately ended on an injury as the No. 1 court featuring Pacific's Ivan Castro and Toki Sherbakov of UC Davis went to a third set.  Sherbakov rallied from a first-set deficit to win 6-4 and was tied 1-1 with Castro in the third.  However, Castro could not continue due to cramps and the Aggies picked up the clinching fourth point.

UCD got on the board first with the all-important doubles point as the No. 2 team of Sherbakova and Josh Albert eased past Erik Cederwall and Alex Hamilton, 8-3.  The Aggies and Tigers had split at No. 1 and No. 3.

The Aggies took a 2-0 lead when Chris Aria handed Valentim Goncalves Jr. a 6-1, 7-6 (7) setback at the No. 4 spot.  However, Jai Grewal got the Tigers going with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) triumph at No. 6 against Albert.

Hugo Verdi-Fortin pushed back against Cederwall at No. 3 and won a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 contest.  Matches at No. 2 and No. 5 were in the third set when Castro retired due to his injury.
