UC Santa Barbara senior Mathieu Forget and Cal State Northridge junior Anna Yang were outstanding in singles and performed well against conference opposition, securing Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Forget Wins Trio Of Matches In Straight Sets

Mathieu Forget (Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman) sparkled in singles for UC Santa Barbara, winning all three of his matches to earn Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.

Forget posted three consecutive straight set wins at No. 1 singles to help the Gauchos to a 2-1 week.

The senior breezed past UC San Diego’s Chapman Chan, 6-2, 6-3, as UCSB won 6-1 against the Tritons.  He then outlasted Denver’s Enej Bonin in a tight 7-6, 7-5 encounter although the Gauchos dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to the No. 54 Pioneers.  However, UCSB rebounded with a dominating 7-0 effort against Big West rival Pacific and Forget forged a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Tiger counterpart Ben Mirkin.

Forget went 1-2 at No. 1 doubles with partners Benjamin Recknagel and Mbonisi Ndimande, winning against Pacific.

Cal State Northridge's Yang Wins Impressive Match Against UC Irvine

Anna Yang (San Diego, Calif./Vista Murrieta HS) put forth an impressive performance for Cal State Northridge against conference foe UC Irvine to garner Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.

Yang captured a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Stephanie Hammel at No. 5 singles to give the Matadors their only singles point of the match in a 5-2 loss.  Yang improved her mark in singles dual matches to 8-6 on the season.

At No. 1 doubles, Yang and teammate Nigora Sirojiddinova helped CSUN gain the doubles point with an 8-4 victory against the Anteater duo of Courtney Byron and Hannah Holladay.
