Statement on University of the Pacific Membership From Commissioner Dennis Farrell
Statement From Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell On Pacific Moving to the West Coast Conference:
“The University of the Pacific has been a valued member of the Big West Conference since it was founded in 1969 and has remained its only private institution. The Big West’s recent growth has given the conference ten large public institutions including five California State University campuses, four University of California campuses and the University of Hawai‘i. While no conference wishes for the departure of a member, it is understandable for Pacific to move its athletics programs into the West Coast Conference, which is comprised of all private institutions.”
