Cal Poly junior Andre Dome upended two nationally ranked singles opponents and Cal State Northridge senior Jennifer Sher extended a pair of personal winning streaks to become the latest recipients of the Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week awards.

Dome Dominating At No. 1 Singles
Cal Poly’s Andre Dome (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande HS) showcased his status as one of the nation’s top singles players after taking down a pair of ranked opponents and nearly beating a third, capturing his second Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honor of 2012.

Dome, currently ranked No. 20 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, helped the Mustangs to wins over No. 55 Nebraska (5-1) and Princeton (6-1) with triumphs at the top draw against two fellow ranked opponents.  He toppled No. 73 Christopher Aumuelle of the Cornhuskers by a 7-5, 6-2 score, then knocked off No. 44 Matija Pecotic of Princeton, 6-4, 6-2.

The junior came up just short in his bid to upend a third ranked foe, as he lost a three-set 4-6, 7-6, 6-5 marathon to Washington’s No. 17 Kyle McMorrow, who is the 17th-ranked Huskies top player.  CP nearly pulled off the upset in a 4-3 defeat.

Others nominated:
Sam Gould (UC Irvine); Jimmy Roberts (UC Riverside); Ivan Castro (Pacific)

Sher Keeps Two Winning Streaks Alive
Jennifer Sher (Hong Kong, China/Concordia) extended a pair of winning streaks in singles and doubles, and helped Cal State Northridge post its third straight victory to give the senior Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week recognition.

Sher won at both No. 1 singles and doubles as the Matadors breezed to a 6-1 victory over UTEP on Friday.  She improved to 10-4 in dual singles matches with a quick 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Martina Trierweiler.  With partner Sabrina Man-Son-Hing, the duo nabbed an 8-3 win in doubles against the Miners.

She has now won five straight singles contests.  In doubles, Sher and Man-Son-Hing are 9-4 with three straight victories.

Others nominated:  None
