Cal State Northridge Takes Winning Streak Into Aztec Invitational
Cal State Northridge rides a six-game winning streak into this week’s competition at the Aztec Invitational. The Matadors play four games over two days against the likes of No. 18 Princeton, Wagner, Bucknell and host No. 8 San Diego State. CSUN has enjoyed a scoring binge recently with double-digit goals in each of its last six games. The winning streak follows a tough stretch in which the Matadors had lost six of seven games. The Princeton contest on Friday is the first of eight straight on the road for CSUN.
UC Davis Catching Momentum After Tough Struggle
After starting out the season 2-8 and playing a brutal schedule that included seven nationally ranked opponents within the top five, UC Davis is getting accustomed to winning again. The Aggies have won three straight and six of their last nine since that rough start. They have outscored their last three opponents by a whopping 37-6 margin. UCD concludes a five-match home stand this week in a doubleheader versus No. 10 Maryland and Fresno Pacific.
UC Irvine Stays Lurks Just Outside Of Top Five
The most recent Collegiate Water Polo Association rankings just came out and UC Irvine sits at No. 6 in the poll. The ranking ties the program-best initially set on Feb. 8. The Anteaters moved up in the rankings after defeating then-No. 6 San Diego State last week, their 10th win against a nationally ranked opponent this season. UCI is a Big West best 16-5 with three of those losses coming to No. 5 Arizona State, No. 4 California and No. 2 Stanford. The Anteaters nearly upset the Golden Bears in Berkeley with a narrow 8-6 defeat on Mar. 3.
Cal State Northridge is a season-high No. 12 in the poll, while UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara follow at No. 15 and No. 17, respectively. Long Beach State is receiving votes.
