D. J. Seeley (Stockton, Calif./California) led Cal State Fullerton in scoring in both games and helped the team close out the conference schedule with a perfect 8-0 home record to earn Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.
The 6-4 guard came up huge on the final day of the regular season as his 27 points propelled the Titans to a 77-74 victory against champion Long Beach State, denying the 49ers a shot at an undefeated league record.
Seeley scored 12 of his 27 points in the final 6:31 and seven of them in the final 2:29. He hit a key three-pointer at 2:29 to give CSF a 69-67 lead and followed up with two free throws at 1:21 to put the team ahead to stay at 71-69. He drained five three-pointers and made 12 of 14 free throw attempts in helping CSF snap LBSU’s 23-game win streak against Big West opponents.
The junior opened the week with 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists in CSF’s 87-76 triumph against Cal State Northridge. He connected on 7 of 14 from the field and 9 of 13 at the charity stripe.
Seeley averaged 26.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 48.0 percent (12 of 25) from the field, 53.8 percent (7 of 13) from three-point range and 77.8 percent (21 of 27) at the free throw line.
He is shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range, which currently ranks No. 1 in the Titan record books for a single-season.
