Cal Poly senior Kristina Santiago received recognition as Big West Player of the Week for her fourth honor this season. This is Santiago’s ninth career Big West Player of the Week honor, placing her in a tie for fourth all-time in conference history.
The Santa Maria native led the team in both points and rebounds in the 76-63 win against UC Irvine last week with 22 points and seven rebounds, to go with four assists and four steals in her 34 minutes of play. In the second contest of the week, Santiago scored 19 points, with 13 of her 19 points coming in the second half to lift the Mustangs over UC Riverside, 60-47. Santiago recorded her 13th career double-double going 7-for-8 from the field with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and one steal.
Santiago is ranked nationally for points, rebounds, field-goal percentage and double-doubles. With her performances this week, she also broke into the Big West top 10 for career points with 1,795.
For the week, Santiago averaged 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 17-of-28 (.607) from the floor.
